Candles

A few weekends ago my husband and I went to a local arts & crafts festival.  There were hundreds of vendors that had almost anything you could imagine.  I'm particularly interested in vendors that make and sell the same type of products that I make and sell.  So at this festival I bought a soy candle.  I have been making soy blend candles for about four years which is simply a blend of soy and paraffin waxes which produces a great scent throw.  Last year I decided to try making a all soy candle because there seems to be so much hype surrounding them as far as being a natural green and clean burning product.  After several  months of testing soy myself I was never happy with the scent throw.  I don't know about you but when I buy a candle I want the fragrance to fill the room.  So of course when I saw everyone surrounding the table full of soy candles at the festival I couldn't help but buy one and try it.  The candle I purchased was even one of the same fragrances that I use so it would be a apples to apples comparison.  Once I got home I immediately lit the candle.  I let the candle burn for about four hours and could barely smell it.  When I was testing soy myself I thought I must be doing something wrong because the scent throw was just not what I was use to.  I have since found that not to be true,  it seems that is one of the characteristics of soy candles.  The truth is whether the candle is soy or paraffin they can both be clean burning if made properly using the right wick size,  Any candle will produce soot if not wicked properly or if it is in a draft.  If you have tried soy candles let me know what you think.
