How to properly burn your Aadley & Co. Candle

Here at Aadley & Co., we take the logistics of burning candles very seriously. I have outlined all of the steps (some more obvious than others) to get the best scent as well as a few other tips. Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions at all.

To really get the most out of your Aadley & Co. Candle:
Burn your container candle for approximately 3 hours before extinguishing the wick. This allows a "meltpool" to form. The meltpool is what gives off the scent. Once you get a pool of  wax on the top, the scent will be released by the wick flame. It takes about 2-3 hours depending on the width of the container for the melt pool to form, may take longer if you have a very wide container. This also allows the wax to melt evenly across and down the jar with no side residue.

Other tid-bit's to keep in mind:
  • Always keep wick trimmed to 1/4" and centered. A long wick will cause your candle to smoke and leave soot. Stop burning candle when only 3/4" of wax is left.
  • DO NOT BURN all the way to the bottom, this could cause the jar to crack and break open, spilling the melted wax!
  • The best way to extinguish the flame is by using a wick dipper or you may use a fork by bending the wick down into the melted pool of wax , it will go out, then pull the wick back up straight.
  • Store candles in a cool, dry area out of direct sunlight. Direct sunlight will cause the candle's color to fade, fast.
  • NEVER leave a burning candle unattended.ALWAYS keep burning candles out of reach of children.

Our Not So New Look!

This post is a little overdue :)  We actually re-branded our products a few months ago but got so busy with sales and the Holidays that I am just getting to this post.  I would like to thank Kelly Sorenson (kellyjsorenson.etsy.com)  for all her help. She has done a great job on all my labels and has been very patient with me and all my changes.  We make handcrafted bath and body products as well as candles in our small studio aka garage. All of our products are made in small batches ( no conveyor belts here) with attention to detail using only the finest ingredients possible.  My family and friends thoroughly test each and every product that we make.  We are confident you will love our products as much as we do!.

What is a Aadley & Co. Lotion Bar

At Aadley & Co.  we make a solid lotion bar that is full of all the good stuff for your skin.  It is comprised mostly of skin nourishing butters like Shea and Cocoa.  It protects, moisturizes and smooths even the driest skin.  Our lotion bars do not contain any harsh chemicals like parabens, phthalates or preservatives.  It is packaged in a twist up tube that is perfect to keep in your purse or desk drawer, it is also great for travel.

How do you use your lotion bar?

The lotion bar actually melts with your body temperature so you can apply directly to the area or rub it on your hands and apply where needed.  I apply mine directly to my heels before bedtime.  It is best to apply in thin layers and let your body absorb before reapplying.

Candles

A few weekends ago my husband and I went to a local arts & crafts festival.  There were hundreds of vendors that had almost anything you could imagine.  I'm particularly interested in vendors that make and sell the same type of products that I make and sell.  So at this festival I bought a soy candle.  I have been making soy blend candles for about four years which is simply a blend of soy and paraffin waxes which produces a great scent throw.  Last year I decided to try making a all soy candle because there seems to be so much hype surrounding them as far as being a natural green and clean burning product.  After several  months of testing soy myself I was never happy with the scent throw.  I don't know about you but when I buy a candle I want the fragrance to fill the room.  So of course when I saw everyone surrounding the table full of soy candles at the festival I couldn't help but buy one and try it.  The candle I purchased was even one of the same fragrances that I use so it would be a apples to apples comparison.  Once I got home I immediately lit the candle.  I let the candle burn for about four hours and could barely smell it.  When I was testing soy myself I thought I must be doing something wrong because the scent throw was just not what I was use to.  I have since found that not to be true,  it seems that is one of the characteristics of soy candles.  The truth is whether the candle is soy or paraffin they can both be clean burning if made properly using the right wick size,  Any candle will produce soot if not wicked properly or if it is in a draft.  If you have tried soy candles let me know what you think.
